The Official Chef provides catering services for events and functions held at the two official residences (bilateral and ASEAN) as well as events and functions held at the Chancery.

Kitchen Services

  • Design and prepare nutritionally balanced meals, with a focus on highlighting NZ cuisine for events and functions at the official Residences
  • Ensure meal and service are well coordinated and delivered punctuall
  • In consultation with the Head of Mission and family at the bilateral Residence, provide food services for family meal plan and shopping list, purchase supplies and account for expenditure. Prepare and serve a variety of family meals.
  • Maintain a high standard of food handling and food safety handling at all times, including disinfecting and washing all fruit and vegetables before use. Ensure hired kitchen staff also maintain these standards
  • Accept responsibility for the smooth and effective operation of the Bilateral Residence kitchen
  • Maintain a high standard of kitchen hygiene at all times by ensuring the kitchen and associated areas are kept clean and tidy, floors are washed regularly and the refrigerators, freezers, ovens and cooker are regularly cleaned.
  • The inside of the refrigerators, freezers, ovens, cooker and kitchen cupboards and drawers are to be regularly cleaned
  •  Rubbish bins are to be emptied and sanitised daily
  • Used dishes are to be washed, rinsed and stacked back in to cupboards or storage boxes immediately following the end of meals or events
  • Unused cooking equipment and utensils, including the cupboards in which they are stored, are to be regularly cleaner
  • The Residence family’s personal supplies and provisions are to be kept separate from provisions purchased for Official use
  • Take responsibility for all shopping requirements
  • Maintain and regularly update inventories of food supplies ensuring complete accuracy
  • Maintain food, drink and cleaning material supplies at the required level
  • Receipts for all goods and services purchased for the Residence must be retained and provided to the Team Administrator Property and Finance.
  • Ensure that the standard staff uniform is maintain at a presentable standard

Other Functions:

  • Prepare appropriate menus for official functions, in advance, for approval by the Ambassadors and / or  Spouses
  • Provide outlines for weekly menus and discuss with the bilateral Ambassador or his/her spouse
  • Liaise with the relevant Executive Assistant for typing of the menus and dish labels, as well as place name cards when appropriateShare the management  of  representational lunches, formal dinners, cocktail parties and other official functionsProvide for food at other locations as required
  • Supervise and direct hired catering and serving staff, and other Residence or Embassy staff serving at official functions

Housekeeping

  • Assist with visiting houseguests
  • Answer the Residence telephone and take any messages received
  • Assist Residence Housekeeper with duties within the Residence as needed
  • Clean the kitchen, equipment and kitchen utensil

Equipments

  • Report all equipment maintenance and replacement needs to the Team Administrator Property and Finance promptly and in writing
  • Replace items as directed by the Team Administrator Property and Financ
  • Adhere to the Residence maintenance schedule

                                   

Others

  • Regularly liaise with the Ambassadors and partners about functions, supplies and equipment
  • Maintain staff  quarters including kitchen and laundry in a clean and tidy condition
  • Undertake additional duties and after hours duties as required
  • The job holder is expected to perform such other duties as can reasonably be regarded as incidental to the position

    • Be aware of and adhere to the Health and Safety policies and procedure
    • Contribute to Post-wide projects and emergency response situations

    • Contribute to the continuous development of the Post’s knowledge base by using the Post’s internal systems, sharing information and data with relevant staf

    • Be familiar with the building and Post Security Instructions and adhere to these at all times

    Qualifications, skills and experiences<      

    You must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

    •  Previous culinary work experience, preferably for representational or other official functions 
    •  Demonstrated ability and interest as a chef/cook — for example preparing breakfasts, dinners, lunches, desserts, finger food, receptions, banquets
    • The ability to follow recipes written in English
    • Cheerful, courteous and cooperative in dealings with all members of the Ambassadors households and Embassy staff
    • Possess initiative and ability to work independently without close supervision while demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively and supportively as a part of a team
    • Flexibility and versatility
    • Demonstrate organisational skills with the ability to adapt to changing situations, able to deal effectively and successfully with multiple tasks and respond to multiple competing demands and set priorities
    • An ability to communicate in English and Indonesian
